1. Join our coalition.
We are a group of people who believe that Wells needs appropriate development, development that reflects the unique and historic nature of our City. But we don't think that the present proposals by Centros Miller are anything more than an attempt to make a large amount of money for their shareholders and for Tescos. We believe that Mendip District Council has failed the people of Wells and the surrounding villages by entering into a contract with a developer for a 'single solution' proposal without bothering to consult the people who live and work here. We believe that the closure of Princes Street is wrong, both in principle and for very practical reasons.
We believe that those of us who live and work here have the skills and understanding of our City to produce a plan that is much better than the Centros Miller 'american style' shopping mall. And so we want to build a coalition of people who want something better than Centros Miller.

2. Volunteer to help.
If Mendip District Council gives planning permission to the present Centros Miller scheme, we will have lost a huge opportunity for more appropriate development in Wells. So we need to persuade Councillors, Residents, Businesses and Organisations to oppose the present inadequate scheme. We need volunteers for all sorts of things. We would particularly like to organise a 'Save Wells' warden in every street.
Will you volunteer to help?
3. Raise funds for our campaign.
A campaign to get a better development plan than the one proposed by Centros Miller will cost money. Can you help? You could make a donation, organise a coffee morning or get people to sponsor you for something. We urgently need funds. We also need someone on the team who can work as fundraiser for the group. If you have previous fundraising experience, then great! But if not, and you are willing to have a go, we'd welcome your help.

if you can help in any way.
4. Write to your local councillor.
It is essential that everyone who objects to this scheme writes to his local councillor, and sends a copy to the Chief Executive of Mendip District Council. We've resisted putting up a model letter because it's best if you write your own. Just say why you think the development plans are inappropriate. Write to your local Mendip District Councillor.
4. Join one of our specialist teams.
We operate through a number of inter-linked teams. There's a 'better development' team, led by architects and other professionals. There's a 'coalition group' working at gaining support for our coalition right across the city. There's a publicity group, a research group, a 'politics group' shadowing the views of those Councillors who are betraying our City. And there's loads of administration that needs doing.
Would you like to join one of our teams?
5. Display our 'Save Wells' sign in your window or in your car.
If you can do nothing else, at least please support us by displaying one of our 'Save Wells' stickers. We'll send you one if you add your name to our coalition database.
